St. Austell bay offers plenty of space and a variety of habitats to suit all interests, and with Fowey river being just a short distance away around the Gribben, a day trip with a pub lunch is not out of the question! The St Austell area has a large number of boat users who regularly use their craft for fishing, skiing, diving or simply to get out and relax on the water.
St Austell Bay Boat Club (SABBC) has hence been formed to support and improve the current facilities available to these boat users, and to improve general safety on the water.
Current provision for launching is provided in association with IMERYS at the Port of Par, and the club is in the process of improving these facilities and looking for other potential sites in the St Austell Bay area. Launching Passes for these facilities are only available through the club.
SABBC has already over 150 members and has regular meetings featuring presentations and demonstrations by the RNLI which include hands-on sessions in the use of safety flares & VHF radio, and talks on general safety. See our event calendar for more details. The meetings are currently held at the ‘St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre’ usually on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.30 pm.
The club also offers an Associate Membership for friends and family of members, or for people who already use other launching facilities but would still like to be involved in other club activities. Anyone with an interest in boating is invited to attend.
SABBC Membership Forms and Associate Forms may also be obtained at these meetings.
